Important Differences With Active wear To Keep In Mind While Doing Sportswear Design

The people who lead what is termed to be an active lifestyle have two distinct types of attire dedicated to their needs viz. Sportswear and Activewear. Sportswear design refers to the design of clothes meant for sports. This is distinct from activewear which simply is the attire for people while they exercise and combines sports and casual elements.

Activewear: Activewear provides an element of style to the functionality and comfort needed during exercise periods. The material used is typically sustainable. Hoodies, parkas, fleece sweaters with crew necks are commonly found Activewear clothes. They let their wearers sweat it out at the gym and transition to casual clothes after they are done with ease. People who lead an active life and spend most of their time outdoors prefer activewear as it combines all the ingredients of comfortable and functional dressing for them with an element of style thrown in for good measure. Specially designed footwear and accessories too fall under the purview of Activewear.

Sportswear: In contrast, Sportswear refers to clothing, footwear, and accessories which have been designed keeping in mind the specific needs of people in a sports setting. Sportswear needs to fulfill particular functions, exhibit specific thermal attributes and feel comfortable. The fabrics of the clothes must be of a specific weight in order to facilitate the physical performance of the wearer and must be sustainable as well. There other desirable attributes of a sports cloth which are det5ermine by particular sports themselves. Let us take the example of swimming. For swimmers, it is highly desirable that the clothes be resistant to water, be stretchable besides possessing thermal attributes required by the body. As might be expected sportswear design does not have the luxury in terms style and material that Activewear has.

Sportswear does not consist of the clothing or the dresses worn by sportspersons alone and is inclusive of the gear that is associated with the particular sport. For example, the body armor is worn by rugby players also forms a part of sportswear and includes things like leotards, polo shirts, sports bras, wetsuits and the like. The purpose of sportswear is not only to facilitate the sportsperson’s performance but also to protect him. Sometimes the sportswear is governed by rigid rules and may also have value in the use of colors of accessories or dresses like it is in the case of Karate.
